Part 1:
DDS goes to C.O.R.E Part 2: Shot
Finaling with FrameCycler DDS |
IRIDAS: How do you use DDS in your work?
FrameCycler DDS is the key component in our shot
finaling process. Once a shot is deemed good enough to
render in HD, we sit down with the Director, Art
Director, CG Supervisor, or Department Supervisor for
Dailies. With FrameCycler’s high resolution playback and
image checking features, we know we have a reliable tool
for evaluating our shots across all of our platforms.
IRIDAS: What else do you like about FrameCycler DDS?
We like that it’s cross-platform – that allows us to
integrate our pipeline better and give us flexibility in
when and where to deploy DDS as our infrastructure
grows. And it doesn’t cost too much to deploy
FrameCycler DDS: we love that fact that it runs on stock
hardware, and the price of the software is quite
reasonable to begin with. But most of all, we like the
fact that IRIDAS has been steadily improving the product
to the point that the 3.5 release is almost Golden!
IRIDAS: What projects have you used DDS on?
Currently we are working on an all-CG animated feature
for upcoming release by a major studio and we will
continue to develop and produce feature and series
animation projects.
IRIDAS: How do you enjoy working in animation?
Animation is one of the most exciting areas to be
working in film today. We’ve seen some great animated
features in the last few years, but I have a feeling
that they are just the tip of the iceberg. There are no
borders with this medium! The skill of the artists and
the capability of our tools mean that anything is
possible. I think I speak for pretty much everyone here:
we love our work!
IRIDAS: Thank you for speaking with us, Tom. We wish you
and the whole team at C.O.R.E. Feature Animation every
success!
