SequencePublisher in the Pipeline

Making their Mark with SequencePublisher |
IRIDAS: Tell us about the pipeline at Digital
Dimension?
I think what really sets us apart from other studios is our ability to
monitor all aspects of our business and production pipeline. Our production
data is connected to a central database where all information about
shots and tasks are stored. This approach allows us to have our finger
on the pulse of production at all times.
IRIDAS: How does SequencePublisher fit into
your workflow?
We have it running on two machines on our render farm. It's working all
the time behind the scenes to transcode every shot that goes through our
pipeline. Whenever a shot is rendered or ready for review, our pipeline
sends a batch of transcoding jobs associated with that shot to
SequencePublisher. Then, when it's done, an email is sent to the artist
saying the jobs are ready with a processing summary and notes about any
successes or failures that SequencePublisher may have encountered.
IRIDAS: How did you do this before?
We had an application to do our QuickTime encoding, but it was difficult
to manage and could not handle frame stamping, so adding text was a
separate process. That setup worked to a point, but it took longer to
render because it involved two separate tasks and was very inflexible.
If a client wanted something different - say a different position or
color for the frame stamping - we'd have to do a lot of extra work to
make that happen. It was way too inefficient.
IRIDAS: And SequencePublisher solved that
problem?
Definitely! Now if a client says " in addition our D1 QuickTime, could
we get a 1K version with no matting and the shot number in the upper
left corner?" … No problem! We just enter the parameters in our database
and our pipeline delivers the specs to SequencePublisher. The next time
that shot is rendered, the QuickTime they requested is created
automatically.

SequencePublisher 2006 automates complex batch processing such as file
conversion and text stamping. It can also do quick composites and apply
LUTS or SpeedGrade .look files to output files.
