Part 6: FrameCycler to the Rescue |
Threshold Digital started out in 1995 and made a name for themselves in
visual effects with their work on such films as Mortal Kombat, the first
successful movie based on a video game, Spiderman 2, Win a Date with Tad
Hamilton, and the Scary Movie franchise. Nowadays, with high profile
venue projects such as the 3D Borg Invasion at the Las Vegas Hilton, the
Space Mountain ride at Disneyland, Sea World's Mistify and Epcot's
Mission Space, Threshold Digital is firmly established as a leading
content creator for location-based entertainment.

The familiar postproduction versions of FrameCycler have long been an
integral part of the pipeline at Threshold Digital. "I can't remember
when we first got it, to be honest" says Derek Zavada, Director of
Technology at the facility. "It seems like we've always used it here.
Everything we do is in frames so FrameCycler is the most efficient way
to review our work," he adds.
According to Derek it is especially important to be able to review
material in full resolution. "For visual effects our motto is 'when you
watch them, we hope you don't notice them.' Codecs just don't allow us
to see our work in the kind of detail and we need, nor would we have the
playback precision which FrameCycler offers us."
