As a period piece, the imagery of The Rebel
needed to evoke another age. "We wanted to
create a desaturated look, like the look of
older film stocks," explains Johannes. "For
flashback scenes as well as turning point
moments in the

story, we created a more extreme
version of that: a grainy look, like an old
postcard. These scenes create a total break in
the color flow of the movie."
