Slow Dancing Press Quotes

"The slow-motion images gave the dancers a chance to view details they were never able to see before … If the dancers were surprised, the casual viewer would surely be engaged at the new way of seeing movement. Armed with that insight, Mr. Michalek set out on the filming of 'Slow Dancing,' which represents a breakthrough for dance portraiture."

- Pia Catton, New York Sun, March 20, 2007

"But the 'Slow Dancing' project is directly about dance because we get to see movement unfold in front of our eyes in time and space. And we see what was previously unseen in stunning minute detail, which to me makes it a jaw-dropping experience."

- Greg Fox, Great Dance, April 24, 2007

I just showed the piece at an event in Los Angeles and the audience was blown away. I’m hopeful that Slow Dancing will have an impact on people who watch it.

Why do you make art?

As a portrait artist, I am endeavoring to create images of human beings which allows us to look more deeply at each other, to discover our greatness and our beauty and – for that moment at least – to fall in love.

Slow Dancing will be presented nightly outside the Lincoln Arts Center in New York City from 9:00 pm to 1:00 am from July 12 through 27, 2007.
